Sue Bahsam Named Mentor of the Year!
Sue Basham was named the 2005 Mentor of the Year Tuesday at the annual Mentor Recognition Luncheon at GreyStone Power Corp.
Basham is a mentor at Annette Winn Elementary School and has been mentoring the same student, third-grader Jonessa St. Lewis, for the past four years. Jonessa is the daughter of John St. Lewis of Lithia Springs.
`This is just wonderful,` said Basham, who works in the accounting department of Sunbelt Marketing, Lithia Springs. `Just being nominated was a great honor to me.`
The Douglas One-2-One Mentoring Program has been naming a top mentor for the past seven years.
The award is titled the Christina Hughes Starfish Award in memory of a former mentor who passed away.
Schools nominate mentor candidates for consideration of the award,
and the Work Force Development Committee of the Chamber and the Douglas One-2-One staff make the difficult decision of selecting just one nominee to be honored,`
said Mitzi Teal, executive director of Communities in Schools of Douglas County, a mentoring sponsor.
`This year’s recipient is a dedicated volunteer who has been very faithful and dedicated to her mentee,` said Barbara Williams, 2004 Mentor of the Year, in her introduction of Basham.
`Sue Basham is a great mentor and a wonderful person,` said school counselor Amelia Butler, who nominated her.
